Core i7 to be phased out! Upcoming:Core i5 and 6-core Nehalem!

Core i7 920 and 950 CPU’s will be around for a little while yet, it is confirmed that every-single-one of the X58 motherboard manufacturers is expecting: 920, 940, 950 and 965 will be end-of-life by early next year.

Only the 975 Extreme Edition and the upcoming 6-core Nehalem CPUs will exist on LGA1366 socket, with Lynnfield engulfing the entire middle field.

LGA1366 and X58 motherboards will be thinned out in the next refresh in Q3/4 with the launch of Lynnfield on Sept. 1st, although no one had an exact date for the phasing out of these CPU products.

Core i5

Right now, Intel controls the high-end desktop market with the Core i7 processor. We’ve been patiently waiting for the cheaper Nehalem derivative, Core i5, to be launched, based on spotting numerous Intel P55 chipset-based boards at this year’s CeBIT trade show.

Core i5, codenamed Lynnfield – takes the guts of Core i7 but cheapens it down by some by removing the third memory channel and by eschewing the QuickPath interconnect in favour of Direct Media Interface. Core i5 will be released in speed-grades of 2.66GHz, 2.80GHz, and 2.93GHz. Like Core i7, it will be manufactured on the 45nm process, incorporate 8MB of L3 cache, HyperThreading, and feature TurboBoost Technology. Core i5 should take over the mid-range performance baton from the Core 2 Quad chips, and it will be interesting to see what AMD can do in response.

6-core Nehalem

According to sources close to Intel, the company is planning to release a six-core Nehalem processor in roughly the same timeframe as the big Lynnfield/P55 release scheduled for later this year.

Sources said that the new chip will drop into existing X58/LGA1366 motherboards with a BIOS update. Most board manufacturers should have already added support, so unless you?

I too am having the same issue with L4D with the 185.85 driver on a 9600GT; I had to go back to 182.50 in which L4D runs nice and smooth with.

The problem I am facing using the latest 185.85 driver:
I own a XFX 9800GT. I’ve installed the latest 185.85 driver and everything seems to be fine and there was no problem. Until then, when I was playing Crysis, the screen suddenly blackout. I thought the program was not responding and I’ve tried to launch Windows Task Manager but there was no response. I have no idea what was causing it back then. I thought the problem would have been solved after restarting. So, I started playing Crysis again. I thought the settings I’ve put is too much for my 9800GT to handle. So I’ve lowered the settings. Unfortunately, the problem wasn’t solved at all. This time, the computer won’t stop responding, it was a different situation. The computer’s screen blackout for a few seconds and back to the desktop like nothing happened. On the lower right corner that’s full of icons, a warning sign icon popped out and there was a mesage displaying “Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered”. I started suspecting that my GPU is facing a problem. So then, I started to search throughout the Internet and I found out some users are facing the same problem too. The problem has been solved after I’ve installed the older drivers.

Although the problem wasn’t announced officially in Nvidia’s official site, but this problem happened to me, and also other gamers who are experiencing lag, blackscreen or even BSOD during gameplay. I’ve came across many forums and the only solution seems to be unistalling the latest driver and installing the old one instead.
Driver version 182.50 has been recommended for better and smoother gameplay.
